I am Matt Hamrick, Co-Founder of SEEN. I was born, raised, and live in Virginia Beach, VA, with deep roots and lifelong friendships across the VB community.

Matt & Kim
My wife Kim and I were high school sweethearts and were gifted with 17 beautiful years of marriage. We felt called to adoption very early in our marriage. I am extremely proud to be an adoptive dad to Joshua (11) and daughter Kirra (7), seeing tremendous beauty and bravery in adoption and the birthmothers that choose life. In parallel to both adoption journeys, we suffered through infertility and after being years removed from the idea of conceiving naturally, we were shocked with a miracle birth of our son Leo.

Kim
I remain acutely aware of the GIFT it was for Kim to be SEEN, loved, and supported throughout here entire cancer journey, knowing that not everyone is blessed with such a tremendous community close to home.
SEEN seeks to give back that same gift, understanding the need to walk with those suffering from cancer, along with their families and caregivers, who often feel alone and isolated from community due to the difficulties of cancer.

But tragedy soon followed. While attending a faith community retreat weekend when Leo was 6 months old, he passed away. It was that experience where Kim and I learned the great life lesson of ACCOMPANIMENT, as our community dropped everything they were doing to walk with us through a parent's worst fear.
On a date night with Kim one year after Leo's passing, Kim heard God say to her, "there will be more heartache, more pain, and possibly more tragedy...are you with me?" Her response was, "I'm not looking to get to a place in my life when things aren't hard anymore like I had always hoped...I'm looking to walk through the hard with the Most Powerful."
And somehow, despite Leo's death and the suffering life threw at us, grace allowed us to grow stronger and deeper as a couple, preparing us for the final test and turmoil that we would endure through Kim's cancer diagnosis and eventual death.
